Acne
outbreaks should always be
treated promptly both to
reduce discomfort and to
mitigate scarring. Early
treatment can often
influence the severity of
acne outbreaks, which is
important to limit permanent
scar damage and related
psychological distress.
Acne treatment is usually
straightforward and several
alternatives are available
depending on severity of the
outbreak. Unfortunately, some
treatments for severe acne have
side effects and are
consequently available only on
prescription under medical
supervision.
The root causes and triggers
of acne skin disease are
primarily hormonal but the
associated dynamics of body
chemistry are very complex and
still not fully explained
despite recent advances. Common
factors include hormonal
changes and imbalances, and a
relationship with stress has
been demonstated recently in
reputable academic reasearch.
However, it seems likely that
stress is more of an
aggravating factor than a
direct cause.
